Modular Magic - Sound Effects Pack

Initially, this library was started when I set out to make some unique elemental magic source material using hardware modular synthesizers. The project grew and grew over several recording sessions and eventually reached close to 5 hours of recorded material. Sorting, editing, cleaning up, and naming these files was a gargantuan task, but I managed to whittle it down to a much more manageable 53 minutes.

The vast majority of these sounds are created by heavily modulating many parameters on various eurorack effect modules such as the Mutable Instruments Clouds, which is a granular processor, and the Make Noise Mimeophon, which is a delay and reverb module. The simulated fire sounds use noise, oscillators, and random clicks and pops. The bubble-y sounds were created by heavily modulating (white/pink noise to modulate cutoff frequency and spread of the resonant peaks) the Make Noise QPAS, which is a quad-peak animated filter. Other notable modules used in the creation of this library are the Tiptop Buchla 258t Dual Oscillator, Tiptop Buchla 266t Source Of Uncertainty, Tiptop Buchla 281t Quad Function Generator, Intellijel Quadrax, Intellijel Noise Tools 1u, Intellijel Planar2, Mutable Instruments Blades, and Mutable Instruments Warps.

Unfortunately, due to an early oversight when creating the initial session, all of these files have been recorded with a 96kHz sample rate but only at a bit depth of 16 bits. Honestly, I don’t think this is much of an issue since 16 bits is plenty of dynamic range for these sounds and noise floor wasn’t a noticeable problem except for in a few instances. I hope you will forgive me!

Absolutely no processing has been done except for using iZotope RX to clean up unwanted noises such as clicks, pops, clipping, errant tones, ultrasonic junk, etc.

This has been a labour of love and I hope you find some inspiration from these sounds.
